Does TikTok Notify When You View Someone's Profile?
Yes, your TikTok profile visit can be visible. If both accounts have Profile view history turned on, the person you visited can see your account in their viewer history for up to 30 days. If either account has it off, your visit is not shown through that feature. TikTok also has Inbox activity about profile views, so do not count on the absence of a phone alert to keep a visit private. The setting for profile visits does not hide views of Stories or necessarily hide views of posts.
When can someone see that you viewed their profile?
TikTok's Profile view history help page describes a reciprocal feature: you see visitors who also have the setting on, and those people can see your visit when they have it on. The list covers the previous 30 days. Access to the feature is limited to accounts whose owners are at least 16 and have fewer than 5,000 followers.

This is about opening a profile page. Typing a name into search is not itself a profile visit; tapping through to the account is the step that can put you in Profile view history. TikTok's help page describes who can appear in the history, but it does not promise a particular push notification for every visit. Its instructions do mention profile view activity in the Inbox, so the practical answer is that a qualifying visit can be noticed.
How to turn off Profile view history
Check the switch before opening a profile if you do not want your account to appear in its viewer history:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Menu (☰), then Settings and privacy.
- Open Privacy, then Profile views.
- Turn Profile view history off and confirm the switch stays off.
TikTok also offers a route from the Profile views screen or its Inbox activity entry. Menu names can differ across app versions, so look for the Profile views or viewer history control if the path above has moved. Turning it off is a two-way choice: other people will not see your visits through this feature, and you will no longer see who viewed your own profile.
Turn off Profile view history now if you want to stop sharing visits through the feature. TikTok does not document a reliable way to retract an alert someone has already noticed, and blocking a person is not a guaranteed way to erase a past view. If the situation is sensitive, do not assume a change made afterward went unseen.
Profile visits, post views, and Story views are different
A common source of confusion is applying the profile setting to everything on a creator's account. TikTok documents Post view history and Story viewers separately.

Post view history focuses on posts from the last 7 days and, according to TikTok, can show qualifying followers who viewed them. Its behavior is more nuanced than a simple view counter: people who liked or commented may appear even when their post view setting is off. Stories last 24 hours and have their own viewer list. If you only want to inspect a profile, avoid opening its Story ring or interacting with posts while you check your settings.
What about public profiles and third-party viewers?
A public TikTok profile can be reachable without a TikTok login. Without a signed-in account, there is no TikTok username to place in a named Profile view history list. That does not make browsing invisible to TikTok as a service: a direct visit to its website can still involve your browser and network details. Third-party pages may also load images or media from TikTok domains, so they are no guarantee that TikTok cannot see a network request. No viewer can grant access to posts or Stories restricted to approved followers.

Common questions about TikTok profile views
Will they know if I viewed their profile more than once?
TikTok documents a 30-day list of qualifying accounts, but does not clearly promise a visit-by-visit count or a fresh alert for every repeat visit. Treat any new visit made while both settings are on as potentially visible.
If I turn the setting on later, will earlier visits appear?
TikTok's Help Center does not clearly specify how previously hidden visits behave after you re-enable the setting. If that distinction matters to you, leave it off rather than briefly switching it on to inspect your own visitors.
Does a private account hide my Story views?

Why can't I find Profile views in my settings?
